A period of life that used to be brief now lasts 30 – 40 years or more.  The retirement period is almost as long as the time spent working, and with it, a deepening malaise in the younger generation to the idea that anyone should expect to retire and live 30 or more years off the productivity of others.

Retirement can no longer be thought of solely in terms of having more leisure time.  Today, it’s more appropriately thought of as a chance to build a new framework for one’s life … i.e., creating an income from an activity that gives joy, provides support for physical and emotional health, and provides a connection with others.

People have waited a long time for the pleasures that come in this developmental stage of life.  Exploit your natural gifts and experiences and settle in to the fullest retirement possible.
